Hey there Courageous Home-keeping readers! This post is a little different then my previous posts because I don’t really have much of a topic besides just to share with you all some awesome little tidbits of beauty goodness that may or may not help you. I find them interesting…but then again I might just be a weirdo! I’ll let you all be the judge.

First…did any of you ladies know that you can actually REMOVE permanent hair color by WASHING YOUR HAIR??? I know…crazy huh? I made a New Years resolution this year to not spend any money on my hair at a salon. That means NO hair color (even from a box at the drug store, no hair cuts, etc.) I had been dying my hair a SUPER dark brown/black color for about 6 months and since my natural hair color is a brownish-red it looked HORRIBLE when it would grow out. So I had to dye it often…like every 3-4 weeks often. Well that’s just WAY too much maintenance for me. I wanted something simple and since I actually like my natural hair color I decided to just grow out the black and get back to my roots so to speak! lol well once I hit about a month and a half worth of grow out I was really hating life. My hair looked hideous and I desperately wanted something that would help me to camouflage the grow out. I did some research on good ol Google and found several shampoos that help to wash out permanent hair color. Google said that the top ones were Head and Shoulders (yup…the dandruff shampoo), Paul Mitchell’s Shampoo 3 (which is meant for swimmers and removing chlorine and toxins from your hair), and Aveda’s Sun Care. I read some reviews that although the Head and Shoulders is cheap, it has a high amount of sulfur in it which kinda freaked me out. I went with the Paul Mitchell one and Lemme tell ya…it works! I still have roots…and you can kinda still see them…but there’s no line of grow out anymore. Its way more gradual of a transition. I’ve only been using it for about 4 weeks and they say that it can take a while but the results that I’ve gotten so far have been awesome! You should all give this a shot if you want to lighten a too dark color, or grow out some dye that you are sick of!

Second…Make up brushes are vital and should be taken care of. Any of you have oily skin? Pimples? Rosacea? Well bacteria that’s on your face gets into your brushes when you apply your make up and if you don’t wash your brushes then you are re-applying all that nastiness onto your face every day! Can I get an Eww?? It’s very simple to clean your brushes. All you need is baby shampoo! Yup, baby shampoo is your brushes best friend. Its gentle and it cleanses thoroughly. Here’s what you do. Point your make up brush with the handle end pointing at the ceiling and the bristles down. Hold the brush under running water thoroughly wetting the bristles. It helps to let the water pool in your palm and then swirl the bristles in the water with the bristles POINTING DOWN…did I make myself clear? You want the bristles to point DOWN. If you hold them pointing up then you wet the glue that holds them in and you’ll get bristles on your face when you put on your makeup. No bueno! So swirl the brush in the water and then get some soap in your palm and swirl the bristles in the soap. Then swirl in the water again until all the soap is gone. Rinse and repeat with all your brushes and then lay them flat on the counter to dry. That’s it. They will be heavenly soft and they will last a lifetime!

Third…Did you know that baking soda makes an amazing clarifier for your hair? If you have product build up then just add about a teaspoon of baking soda to your shampoo and it will get your hair squeaky clean! Simple and easy!

Fourth…Did you know that breast milk helps to heal eye infections like sty’s and conjunctivitis? It really does! I knew an amazing lactation consultant (who’s sadly retired…sniff sniff) who swore by dripping breast milk in her eye if she was ever getting an eye infection. It seriously works and is the ultimate in natural remedies! Yet another reason to love Mama’s Milk!

Fifth…Arm bumps. You all know what I’m talking about. Those stubborn bumps that people get on the back of their arms. It’s actually called Keratosis Pillaris (nicknamed chicken skin) and it’s a hereditary condition that affects about 70 % of the population!! Its more common in women though and its totally stubborn and hard to get rid of. Know what works? Exfoliating regularly with a SUPER gritty scrub or my personal fave…exfoliating gloves! You can get them at Target or Walmart. They are awesome and you just keep them in your shower! Another amazing product that helps to heal and cure KP is a product from a brand called Derma Doctor. Its called KP duty and is a two part system that combines an amazing exfoliator with a cream containing lactic acid and salicylic acid. This stuff seriously rocks!!!!!!! No joke! It’s expensive but way worth the investment if you have BAD KP. If you do then Get thee to Sephora and buy it! It’ll run  you about 60 bucks for both of them combined but you won’t get the same results if you don’t use both of them. It’ll last you quite a while too so you won’t be spending that every month or anything.  Its also a medical grade micro dermabrasion treatment so you get the same effects as you would going into a medical spa and getting a chemical peel or something. But with a WAY smaller price tag!

Ok so I know this was a random mish mosh of info but I hope you all learned something you can apply! Have an amazing month!!!
